Sport is a crucial part of our social dynamic; providing a way in which people can come together in a way that transcends class and background, to work as a team, show respect for others and engage in a collective experience.

However, coming together to enjoy sports events has an impact on the environment, and plays its role in contributing to climate change.

  • In 2014 the FIFA World Cup Brazil also generated just over 2.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions
     
  • Waste Management (WM) estimates that the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL generate approximately 35,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year from their fans’ waste activities
     
  • In 2011, Major League Baseball’s 73 million fans went to 2,430 regular season games
